CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A patron at a South Carolina bar shot and wounded an employee during an argument over the bar’s closing, according to police.

The shooting happened late Friday when a group of four people became upset about being asked to leave the downtown Charleston bar at closing time and were not allowed back inside, according to a police incident report obtained by news outlets.

Police said the group began arguing with security staffers and a 28-year-old employee of the bar went to help his coworkers when one of the suspects took out a gun and fired shots toward the employee.

The worker suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to the hospital, officials said.

Police said Friday that the shooter escaped the scene and was not in custody. Officials did not believe there was any threat to the public.

None of the people involved were identified.

The investigation remained ongoing.
