MACON, Ga. (AP) - A 14-year-old middle Georgia boy has been arrested on juvenile charges including involuntary manslaughter after an 8-year girl was shot while children were playing with a gun.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that deputies arrested the teen for illegally possessing a handgun and taking it into the home where other children were located. That led to Miracle Brantley being shot and killed last month.

Deputies say the teen’s name is not being released. He is also charged with reckless conduct and possession of a gun by a person younger than 18.

An incident report obtained by WMAZ-TV shows Miracle Brantley’s brother told deputies that his sister shot herself in the head in the incident at a Macon home.

Brantley’s grandmother, Patricia Reed, told deputies her four grandchildren were at her home doing school work. Reed said she heard a gunshot and found Brantley bleeding in the kitchen.

Reed said someone brought a gun into the home without her knowledge

“Cases that involve young children and violence hit hardest on our community,” Bibb County District Attorney Anita Howard said in a statement. “We are working together to keep our communities safe and ensure justice for the victims and those accused.”
