A 39-year-old woman is dead following a snowmobile crash in Vermont.

The Vermont State Police identified the woman as Kristle Humiston of Brandon, Vermont. They say she was riding as a passenger in the back of a snowmobile in the town of Salisbury Saturday evening when the snowmobile struck an embankment and several trees.

Humiston was pronounced dead at the scene.

The snowmobile’s driver was listed as a female 43-year-old Salisbury resident. She suffered injuries to her wrists and a head laceration. Neither of the women were wearing helmets.

Authorities say the snowmobile was travelling at a high rate of speed when it crashed. The incident remains under investigation.
