BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota health officials reported typically low COVID-19 testing numbers on Sunday, with 49 new cases confirmed out of 1,673 tests processed in the last day.

The update increased the total number of positive tests to 98,155 since the start of the pandemic. Cass County, the state’s most populous area, has recorded the most cases at 21,038.

There were about 182 new cases per 100,000 people in North Dakota over the past two weeks, which ranks 50th in the country for new cases per capita, according to Johns Hopkins University researchers. One in every 1,395 people in North Dakota tested positive in the past week.



No new deaths were posted in Sunday’s report, leaving the total number of fatalities at 1,428.

Hospitalizations rose by three in the last day. to 39. Of those patients, nine people are being treated in intensive care units. The state’s hospital tracker shows there are 56 staffed ICU beds and 402 staffed inpatient bed available throughout the state.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
