MACON, Ga. (AP) - The shooting that killed an 8-year-old middle Georgia girl came when the girl and other children were playing with a gun.

A Bibb County sheriff’s report obtained by WMAZ-TV shows Miracle Brantley’s brother told deputies that his sister shot herself in the head in the Friday incident at a Macon home.

Brantley’s grandmother, Patricia Reed, told deputies her four grandchildren were at her home while doing school work. Reed said she heard a gunshot and found Brantley bleeding in the kitchen.

She said someone brought a gun into the home without her knowledge, and the children were playing with it when it fired. The name of the person who brought the gun to the house is redacted from the report and hasn’t been released.

Brantley died Sunday at an Atlanta hospital.

Deputies said they are still investigating and an autopsy report that will confirm how Brantley was shot is still pending. It’s unclear if they are considering any criminal charges in the case.
