WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - Cleanup is underway after 21,000 gallons of crude oil spilled at a well east of Williston, state energy officials said Wednesday.

State Oil and Gas Division officials said the release at the Equinor Energy LP well was due to a valve failure.

Officials said the oil was contained on-site and all but about 400 gallons had been recovered as of Wednesday afternoon.

A state inspector has been sent to the location and will monitor additional cleanup.
