TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A Tulsa police officer is in a medically-induced coma after he lost consciousness and a pulse following an altercation with a patient who was being transported in an ambulance, police said Friday.
Officer Sean Love was responding to a call from an ambulance company about a combative patient, Tulsa police said in a statement. After Love engaged in a physical altercation with the patient, police say he suffered a medical emergency, lost consciousness and had no pulse.
Paramedics and other officers started to perform CPR and brought him to a nearby hospital, where his condition improved from critical to stable.
“He is currently in the (intensive care unit) and in a medically-induced coma due to concerns developing from his loss of consciousness,” police said.
The patient was taken into police custody, said police spokesman Danny Bean.
