Equality is as American as blue jeans and beer kegs. With nearly 20 percent of us pretty sure we’re living inside a computer simulation, fantasy is pretty popular, too. “To each his own” works for most people — but not for Democrats on Capitol Hill. They would force one and all to dwell inside their fantastical notion of equality.

The House is expected to vote this week on the so-called Equality Act, meant “to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation, and for other purposes.” In reality, though, the law would prohibit individuals from refusing to play along with the sexual and gender reveries of others.

President Biden has endorsed the crossover from reality to illusion, writing: “The Equality Act provides long overdue federal civil rights protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, locking in critical safeguards in our housing, education, public services, and lending systems — and codifying the courage and resilience of the LGBTQ+ movement into enduring law. “

Discrimination on the basis of sex in the workplace is already illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The new Equality Act would go far beyond current law to expand protection into every corner of society on the basis of “sexual orientation and gender identity.”

The wording on its face doesn’t sound unreasonable, but the effect would force individuals to bow before the gender dysphoria altar and become active, if not willing, players in sexual identity fantasies demanded of them. “Live and let live” that is not.

The current sexual diversity fad has already given rise to the spectacle of biological boys adopting transgender status and dominating girls’ sports, not to mention gaining access to girls’ locker rooms and bathrooms. The proposed act could override the judgment of medical professionals by forcing doctors to provide transgender treatments, such as surgeries and hormone treatments. And it classifies resistance to abortion as “pregnancy discrimination.”

Judging the measure in its totality, feminists at the Women’s Liberation Front conclude its passage would be more harmful than helpful: “While the Equality Act is being sold on promising good things for women, and on ending unfair treatment of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people — which almost everyone agrees are worthy and important goals — it’s poisoned with the destruction of the law’s ability to allow any accommodations for women on the basis of sex.”

Since time immemorial, human beings have accepted the biological reality of male and female sexes as common sense and science. There are X and Y chromosomes, the sex chromosomes. Confused congressional Democrats would unravel this fundamental precept of civilization under the bizarre belief that Americans can “build back better.”

The United States in 2021 is anything but a hotbed of hatred for diverse lifestyles. A certain segment of society fantasizes about living inside “The Matrix” and another fancies life inside the body of the opposite sex. Neither requires a law forcing the rest of us to play along.
