OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - The U.S. attorney for north Mississippi said Tuesday that he will resign Feb. 27.

William C. “Chad” Lamar was nominated to the post by then-President Donald Trump in June 2017 and was confirmed by the Senate that November.

It’s common for U.S. attorneys to leave their jobs when there’s a change of administration. The Justice Department has asked all Trump-era U.S. attorneys to submit their resignations.

Lamar is an Oxford native who started working as an Oxford-based assistant U.S. attorney for the northern half of Mississippi in 1991.

“It has been a privilege and honor to serve as an AUSA and the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi and in the town where I was raised,” Lamar said in a news release Tuesday.

Mike Hurst resigned Jan. 19 as U.S. attorney for the southern half of Mississippi.
