CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a barn fire that killed 10 horses in southeast Missouri.
The fire broke out Thursday night at Fox Run Riding Academy in Cape Girardeau. The Southeast Missourian reported that damage was estimated at $500,000.
East Cape Girardeau County Fire Chief Randy Leuder said when his team arrived, the whole left side of the barn was engulfed and parts had collapsed.
Icy conditions made fighting the fire difficult. Several local farmers helped put down cinder and salt to help fire trucks get to the site.
Fox Run’s website says it was established in 2006 and is known for “providing a safe and family-oriented environment with superb lesson horses and prize-winning sale ponies.”
