IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) - A fatal police-involved shooting on Monday in eastern Idaho was the fourth of its kind in the region in about a week.
A Rexburg Police Department officer shot and killed a 50-year-old man at an apartment complex on Monday while responding to a complaint about an “unwanted subject,” the Post Register reported.
Eastern Idaho usually reports two to three fatal shootings in a year, the newspaper reported.
Law enforcement has also shot and killed people in Idaho Falls, Bingham County and Pocatello.
Sgt. Bryan Lovell, public information officer for the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, said he could not recall a time when so many officer-involved shootings happened in such a short amount of time.
The Eastern Idaho Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the incidents, the newspaper reported. The incidents include the fatal shooting of Idaho Falls man Joseph Johnson on Feb. 8; the fatal shooting of Bruce Diehl after he barricaded himself and shot at deputies; the Saturday shooting of an unidentified suspect; and the shooting on Monday.
None of the officers involved in the recent shootings have been identified by their law enforcement offices.
