FRANKLINTON, La. (AP) - A relative went to check on how a mobile home owner was doing in Louisiana’s bitter cold and found the home on fire - making it the 12th fatal fire in the state this year, the State Fire Marshal’s Office reported Tuesday.
A man found dead inside the Franklinton home is believed to be the home’s 53-year-old owner but an autopsy has not yet confirmed that, a news release said. He is the 13th person to die in a Louisiana house fire so far in 2021.
Firefighters who answered the 2:45 p.m. call on Monday later found his body in the living room.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined, but improper wiring or unsafe smoking may have contributed, the news release said.
The statement said deputies found that wires had been spliced to share power between two trailers and a camper, and multiple extension cords plugged into each other ran through the mobile home that burned.
