MILLINOCKET, Maine (AP) - The Millinocket Town Council has voted unanimously to approve a settlement with a former chief police deputy who filed a harassment complaint against the former chief.

The details of the agreement with Janet Theriault have not yet been made public, the Bangor Daily News reported.

According to the council, Theriault has been on administrative leave since February 2020 and has a case with the Maine Human Rights Commission related to a harassment complaint filed with the town against former Police Chief Craig Worster.

Millinocket residents in June started a GoFundMe that raised $8,000 in support of Theriault.

Residents also launched a petition that called for the removal of Worster, former Town Manager John Davis and town attorney Dean Beaupain. The petition also called for Theriault to be paid for the time she was on leave.

In September, Davis, who hired Worster, dismissed Theriault’s complaint, finding it to be without merit. The town council voted 6-1 days later to remove Davis.

Interim Manager Annette Padilla fired Davis in December, and the council disbanded the Millinocket Police Department.

This is the second settlement reached with a former officer since Worster became police chief in 2019. In July, the town reached a $90,000 settlement with former Police Officer Paul Gamble.
