ELKO, Nev. (AP) - An office manager and bookkeeper at a landscaping business in Elko has been charged with forging dozens of checks and embezzling thousands of dollars from the company.
Elko police say they arrested 48-year-old Elaine Taylor this week in an investigation that dates to last February.
She’s accused of cashing or attempting to cash 89 checks from the business account she was in charge of over the past three years, according to the Elko Daily Free Press.
One local restaurant owner told investigators he paid the landscaper more than $10,000 in cash that was never deposited in the business account.
Police say after they interviewed Taylor in August, she reportedly sent an email to her former employer admitting she wrote checks to herself, and apologizing.
Taylor is charged with embezzling more than $3,500 and forging 89 checks. Both are felonies.
It’s not clear if she has a lawyer or will be appointed one at a pending court appearance.
