OPINION:
Those sitting courtside in American Airlines Stadium in Dallas can breathe in the redolence of the progressive virtues of inclusion and unity. This week, oligarch, shark and Dallas Maverick owner Mark Cuban affirmed that he canceled the playing of our national anthem before Maverick home games. The peremptoriness was all too apparent in his statement: “It was my decision to not play the anthem before games. It wasn’t because the franchise lacks love for the United States, but rather because many in the organization feel that the anthem doesn’t represent them.”
Mr. Cuban’s fastuousness continued when he said, “We respect the passion people have for the anthem and our country the hope is that those who feel passionate about the anthem being played will be just as passionate in listening to those who do not feel it represents them.” The real message is not unity or inclusion, but the opposite. If you disagree with the silencing of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” then go buy a Cowboys ticket.
