SPRINGVILLE, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama prison inmate has died following an attack by a fellow prisoner, according to state corrections officials.
St. Clair County Correctional Facility inmate Dexter Freeman, 38, died Monday from injuries sustained during an “inmate-on-inmate assault” at the Springville prison, according to the department of corrections.
No additional details about the assault were released and the other inmate allegedly involved in the attack was not identified.
Corrections spokeswoman Samantha Rose said the attack was being “thoroughly investigated.”
An autopsy was set to be performed to determine Freeman’s cause of death, Rose said.
The state inmate was serving a 15-year sentence for first-degree sodomy.
