CHINO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - A Chino Valley man has been arrested after a two-hour standoff with a SWAT team, Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials said.
They said 57-year-old Emery Dodd was booked into the county jail on suspicion of endangerment, weapons misconduct, threatening and intimidating, reckless handling of a weapon, assault and disorderly conduct.
It was unclear Wednesday if Dodd has a lawyer yet for his case.
Sheriff’s officials said they were called out to Dodd’s residence Sunday afternoon.
One of his family members called 911 to say Dodd allegedly wanted to kill himself or have law enforcement come and do it for him.
Sheriff’s deputies made cellphone contact with Dodd and convinced him to come outside.
They said Dodd was wearing body armor and held an assault rifle under his chin.
Deputies evacuated residents in the area and SWAT team negotiators got him to surrender without incident.
Investigators said they later found several firearms with ammunition inside the residence in different locations.
