OPINION:
Radicals or extremists are not created by accident. Out of fear or hope, moderates may even sometimes grasp for extremists, believing that they can achieve what is needed.
However, the insertion of extremism tends to exasperate situations or embolden other extremists on all sides. Combating one form of extremism with its opposite extremism can only invite more.
We must be careful not to give way or sanction extremism.
Extremists are opportunists and never more powerful than when the culture in which they reside experiences an attack, be it actual, perceived or fabricated. Without this fear, real or imagined, the power and influence of the extremist would diminish considerably.
Within extremism, practicality or morality can easily become secondary. Emotion can easily dominate logic. All will eventually pay the price for the extremist.
