OPINION:
Yesterday it was reported on “The Today Show” (8/18,NBC) that 42 states had submitted details on their COVID-19 “breakthrough cases.” To date: Of the 168 million fully vaccinated Americans, there have been 248,943 breakthrough cases, 7,608 hospitalizations and 1,587 deaths. These are very impressive results for any vaccine.
However almost every state not reporting are Republican. THese GOP-governed states actually refuse to acknowledge the virus’ lethal threat. South Dakota is infamous for the no-mask, no-vax ‘motorcycle week’ even though the number of virus cases spiked after last year’s fiasco and was shared across the country.
Governors such as Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida have issued executive orders banning mask mandates and advocating a no mask-no/no-vax policies — even though they both got fully vaccinated long ago. Their program seems to be of the “Do as I say and not as I do” variety. The people be damned (and infected).
