CARLE PLACE, N.Y. (AP) - An SUV driver on Long Island was critically injured Friday in a crash with a police department ambulance, police said.
Nassau County police said the Mercedes SUV collided with the ambulance around 1:50 p.m. on Old Country Road in Carle Place.
The ambulance was going eastbound on Old Country Road with emergency lights flashing and sirens blaring, police said. The SUV was heading west and making a left turn from Old Country Road onto Zeckendorf Boulevard.
A Nassau County police medic was also injured and hospitalized in stable condition. The 33-year-old driver of the SUV was listed in critical condition.
The 56-year-old driver of a Land Rover that was struck in the crash was not physically injured, police said.
