HARTFORD, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont woman is facing kidnapping and other charges accusing her of stealing a pistol from a parked vehicle at a New Hampshire gas station, entering another parked vehicle and forcing a man to drive her to Vermont, police said Thursday.

Jennifer Fornwalt, 48, of Bradford, pleaded not guilty on Thursday and was being held without bail.

She allegedly stole the pistol from a vehicle parked at a gas station and convenience store in Hanover, New Hampshire, on Wednesday before she got into the back seat of another vehicle and took the cellphone, Hartford police said.

The driver left the store, got back into his vehicle and drove away before noticing his phone was missing. He spotted the woman in the backseat holding it, preventing him from calling for help while she demanded to be driven to White River Junction, police said.

When she got out of the vehicle in Vermont and returned the cellphone he saw that she had a firearm, police said.

Fornwalt is also facing charges in New Hampshire related to the incident and for being a fugitive from justice, police said. It was not immediately known if she is being represented by an attorney.
