JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jackson’s zoo will soon go from being open only on weekends to a four-day schedule.

The expanded hours come as debate continues about whether to close the zoo or move it to a different location, WAPT-TV reported.

The city is making a heavy financial investment in neighborhoods near the zoo, which includes demolishing some abandoned homes nearby, Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba said.

Beginning May 6, the zoo will be open Thursdays and Fridays in addition to Saturdays and Sundays.
