PHOENIX (AP) - A 1-year-old girl was hospitalized in extremely critical condition Sunday after swallowing an unknown pill at a Phoenix hotel, authorities said.

Phoenix Fire Department officials said paramedics responded to the hotel about 8:30 a.m. and the baby was suffering from an “altered level of consciousness” and then went into cardiac arrest.

They said the child’s parents had tried to remove the pill from her mouth before calling 911. The baby was rushed to a pediatric hospital.

Authorities said it’s still unclear what kind of pill the baby swallowed.
