RENO, Nev. (AP) - Northern Nevada officials are trying to figure out who abandoned 27 dogs at a park north of Reno in recent weeks.

Washoe County Regional Animal Services told the Reno Gazette Journal that they’re asking for anyone who has seen or heard something related to the dogs to contact Regional Animal Services.

It was not clear if the animals were all abandoned at same time or gradually over two weeks. The county’s animal services department did not immediately respond to a message seeking more information.

The agency says there are legal and responsible ways to surrender a pet that cannot be cared for by contacting shelters such as the Nevada Humane Society or the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
