PHOENIX (AP) - A popular trial on Phoenix’s Camelback Mountain was temporarily closed Sunday after bees stung a hiker and a Phoenix firefighter who was on a rescue mission.

Firefighters responded to the Echo Canyon Trail about 10 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a 50-year-old man experiencing a medical condition while hiking the trail.

But the firefighters encountered bees while making their way up the mountain, delaying their rescue operation.

A hiker in his 40s and a city firefighter sustained multiple bee stings, but both refused to be taken to the hospital.

Authorities said the 50-year-old man eventually walked down the mountain with assistance from the rescue team.

He was in stable condition when transported to a hospital to be checked out for the medical condition. His name wasn’t released.
