OPINION:
The negative impact of current journalism is unmistakable with the coverage of the Derek Chauvin/George Floyd affair. An absurd act of macabre and senseless violence committed by a demented individual against a frequent lawbreaker catapulted these nincompoops to national importance. Who knows how many imitators there will be? What an insult to the heroes in Arlington National Cemetery.
Arriving at a point where our society is colorblind and each person is considered based on his or her achievements is not going to be accomplished by disproportionately promoting hatred on a few errant supremacists and police officers. Black lives mattered more during Jimmy Carter’s administration because discriminatory policies in steel plants were being done away with and minorities were starting to earn their way out of the ghetto. Reaganomics finished that. Its originators were not the selfless patriots they portrayed.
We are now a colony dedicated to wealthy importers, foreign investors, multinationals, and sports and entertainment mega-millionaires.
Blind party loyalty and hatred directed at each other and our national leaders offer us little chance of becoming re-enfranchised with a constitutional trade and economic system based on the “common good.”
Temporary stimulants and giveaways are not the long-term answer for equality and prosperity. Americans need to earn their way to prosperity as they have always done.
For those who feel democracy is won, the White House no longer accepts faxes or addressed emails — and good luck with a certified letter.
