HUGER, S.C. (AP) - State agents have been called to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed a South Carolina church early Monday.

Little was left standing after the fire except for the brick walls of New Hope United Methodist Church in Huger just off state Highway 41.

State Law Enforcement Division agents are investigating the fire and it is too early to determine the cause. SLED routinely investigates many church fires in South Carolina after a rash of blazes at South Carolina houses of worship in the 1990’s.

There were no injuries reported, but photos from the scene showed flames throughout the church early Monday and just the front facade and the brick walls standing at daybreak after the fire was extinguished.
