LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada on Sunday reported 508 new cases of the coronavirus and one additional death from COVID-19.

The latest numbers from Nevada’s Department of Health and Human Services brings the total to 71,610 confirmed cases and 1,389 deaths from the disease.

The number of new reported cases is the highest in over a week, with higher test results coming after officials on Monday started a drive-thru coronavirus testing blitz aimed to test 60,000 people.

The number of infections is thought to be far higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected with the virus without feeling sick.

For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms for up to three weeks. Older adults and people with existing health problems can face severe illness and death. However, the vast majority of people recover.
