BARRE, Mass. (AP) - A 71-year-old man shot and killed his landlord in a small Massachusetts town on Friday morning and then called 911 to report the shooting, prosecutors said.

Robert Leger, who lived in a small house on the grounds of a Barre home, is charged with murder in the death of Michael Hannon, according to authorities.

“Barre police received a 911 call from a man saying that he had just killed another man,” Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said at a news conference.

Officers found the victim dead from multiple gunshot slouched over in a car.

Leger walked out of the house and was taken into custody, aothorities said. It was not clear what sparked the shooting.

Authorities said this was not a random act and there is no public threat.

Leger was scheduled to be arraigned in East Brookfield District Court on Friday afternoon. It was not clear if he had an attorney.
