TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Fire Marshal’s office has determined that the Tiverton man who died in a blaze last month started the fire.

The investigation by local officials found that the victim, Mark Bassaly, was responsible for the August blaze, Newport Daily News reported, citing a release.

Responding firefighting crews arrived on the scene to find flames and thick, black smoke coming from the roof on Aug. 24. They transported the victim to St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts, where he was pronounced dead.



According to the release, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Tiverton Police and Tiverton Fire Departments were all involved in the investigation.
