WILLIAMSTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say two people were found dead and 10 others were left homeless after an early morning fire in central Pennsylvania.
Firefighters from Dauphin and Schuylkill counties were called shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday to the Williamstown neighborhood and found three buildings engulfed in flames.
State police said two people were unaccounted for after firefighters brought the blaze under control. Trooper Megan Ammerman said a search began and the victims were located at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
“Identifying the individuals will take a while,” Ammerman told The (Pottsville) Republican-Herald at about noon Tuesday.
Officials said four adults and six children left homeless are being provided food, clothing and shelter by the American Red Cross. Relatives of one resident said at least one person was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
