CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - An 87-year-old woman was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on Friday as she tried to cross a Cranston street, police said.

The woman was struck not far from her home at about 10:30 a.m., Maj. Todd Patalano said.

The woman was in or near a crosswalk, but police are still investigating whether she had a walk signal, he said.

The truck driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Police are not releasing the woman’s name until her family can be notified of the death.
