A shark attack in Florida ended almost as quickly as it began after a pregnant woman jumped to the aid of her husband.
Andrew Charles Eddy was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami Sunday after a bull shark between 8 feet to 10 feet long bit his shoulder.
“This was a very rare medical crisis for the Florida Keys, but everyone came together — including those witnesses on the boat to 911 Communicators to all our emergency responders — in order to ensure this victim received life-saving care,” Sheriff Rick Ramsay said of the incident at Sombrero Key Light.
An incident report obtained by People magazine confirmed the heroics of Mr. Eddy’s wife, Margot Dukes Eddy.
“Dukes, without hesitation, dove into the water and pulled Eddy to the safety of the boat,” Deputy Christopher Aguanno of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in the report.
The victim’s injury was described as “severe” by authorities.
Mr. Eddy, a 29-year-old from Atlanta, did not respond to the magazine’s request for comment prior to publication Wednesday.
