KINGSTON, Mass. (AP) - Police shot and injured a man armed with a knife and acting in a threatening manner in the parking lot of a Massachusetts mall early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Officers responded to the Kingston Collection mall just before 3 a.m. after getting 911 call from a mall security guard about a man acting “erratically,” according to a statement from the office of Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz.

Two officers located the man, Kingston Police Chief Maurice Splaine told The Enterprise of Brockton.

“The man who is 25 years old, allegedly threatened officers and shots were fired. The male was struck,” Cruz said.

The man was taken by ambulance to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth before being flown to a Boston hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening, Cruz said. His name was not released.

The officer who shot the suspect has been with the department for about 15 years, Cruz said.

He was treated as a precaution but was not injured, Cruz said.

No other details were released.
