MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi city is celebrating a gospel singer who finished in the top three of a televised competition.
Jamal Roberts of Meridian performed this season on BET’s “Sunday Best.” Local residents held a parade for him downtown Monday.
“This is my support system,” Roberts told the Meridian Star. “We’re all family. They’re pushing behind me constantly, and aggressively. So, I thank them for all their support.”
Roberts’ pastor, James McGhee, told WTOK-TV that the singer is finding success because of perseverance.
“He has a dream and he has lived that dream,” McGhee said. “He even supported his dream through tough times. He kept pushing.”
Roberts is a 2016 graduate of Meridian High School.
