BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man was sentenced Monday to 22 1/2 years in prison for charges stemming from what prosecutors described as a violent sex and drug trafficking operation in the Burlington area.
Brian Folks was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Burlington.
During the trial, prosecutors said that in addition to the drug trafficking operation that sold heroin and cocaine base, Folks forced forced young, drug-addicted women to serve as prostitutes.
Prosecutors say Folks manipulated his victims’ addictions. He also beat his victims, often in front of other victims.
Four victims testified during Folks’ May 2019 trial.
Folks’ lawyer Mark Kaplan said by email Tuesday that Folks would be appealing his conviction.
