Metallica has become the first musical group in history to hold the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs chart in four distinct decades, Billboard reported Tuesday.

“All Within My Hands,” Metallica’s latest single, climbed a spot from the week before to become the top song on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart dated Sept. 5, Billboard reported.

Metallica previously topped the weekly chart in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2008, 2009, 2016 and 2017, making the heavy metal band the first group ever to dominate it four decades in a row.

“All Within My Hands” appears on Metallica’s latest album, “S&M2,” which the group recorded live with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra over two nights in September 2019.

It is the 10th Metallica song to hold the top spot on the Billboard chart and the first this decade.

Only a handful of acts have topped the Mainstream Rock Songs chart more times than Metallica since the ranking, originally known as the Rock Albums and Top Tracks, started in 1981.

Shinedown currently holds the distinction as being the band with the most No. 1 appearances on the chart. The rock group has topped the chart a total of 16 times.

Three Days Grace has topped the chart 15 times, followed by Van Halen and Godsmack with 13 and 11 appearances, respectively. Disturbed and Tom Petty are tied with Metallica at 10.
