Questions about Joseph R. Biden using teleprompters as a crutch during local interviews or Q&A sessions will go unanswered — for now.

Campaign spokesman T.J. Ducklo dodged the question when asked Thursday by Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier.

“This is straight from the Trump campaign talking points,” Mr. Ducklo said. “What it does, Bret, is it’s trying to distract the American people from —”

The “Special Report” host suggested that definitively answering the question would negate attempts by President Trump’s campaign to make it an issue.

“They’re using it,” the Fox host said between cross-talk. “They talk about it every day. … Can you say yes or no?”

“Bret, they talk about it every day because they don’t have a coherent argument for why Donald Trump deserves reelection, deserves four more years,” Mr. Ducklo replied. “We know that he lied to the American people. We know that he has not showed leadership during this crisis, and they are desperate to throw anything they can against the wall to try to distract from that fact.”

“I understand,” Mr. Baier countered. “But you can’t answer the question?”

Mr. Ducklo stood his ground.

“Bret, I am not going to allow the Trump campaign to funnel their questions through Fox News and get me to respond to that,” he said.

Mr. Trump’s campaign and surrogates have accused Mr. Biden, 77, of employing a “basement” strategy to hide age-related cognitive decline from voters as much as possible prior to Election Day.

The Democrat’s campaign has fiercely rejected the claim for months.
