GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A student representing the University of North Dakota’s business school will ring the closing bell for the NASDAQ Stock Exchange on Wednesday.

Pierson Painter, a student at UND’s Nistler College of Business and Administration, will ring the closing bell remotely from North Dakota on behalf of the business school.

Painter won the Red River Valley Business Plan competition in May for his plan to expand his landscaping business, winning a $15,000 cash prize, $25,000 in business consulting hours and the opportunity to ring the closing bell. He’s a an entrepreneurship and marketing double major from Grand Forks.



The university’s logo, a 30-second video and a message will appear on the NASDAQ Tower and NASDAQ Marquee in Times Square during the ceremony. The school’s dean, Amy Henley, and marketing professor Robert Warren, who organized the competition, will join Painter for the virtual event.

The event will be streamed on the NASDAQ website beginning at 2:45 p.m. central time.
