LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas police said Thursday that a man jailed since last week on armed robbery and burglary charges died after a guard found him in his cell with a bed sheet tied around his neck.
A department statement said the 54-year-old detainee did not have “police interaction” before he was found unconscious at noon Wednesday next to his bed at the Clark County jail, and that he was pronounced dead at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
His name was not immediately made public.
The Clark County coroner’s office on Thursday released no immediate information about the man’s identity or death. Police said he had been arrested Oct. 2.
