COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Police are searching for a University of South Carolina student accused of shooting a man to death near the campus.
Zachery Jamell Williams, 20, is wanted on murder and armed robbery charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Wesley Colin Brown, 26, about half a mile (0.8 kilometers) from the Columbia campus over the weekend, university police said in a statement Wednesday.
Police said Williams approached Brown, stole something from him and shot him before escaping with a second suspect, Xavier York Glover, 20. Glover was arrested and jailed Tuesday, Columbia police announced.
Williams, who lives in off-campus housing, should be considered armed and dangerous, according to authorities.
Brown, a Greenville resident, was in town for a wedding, Columbia police said Monday. His body was discovered by a couple out for a walk on Sunday morning.
Glover was not identified as a student at the university. It was unclear whether he had an attorney who could comment for him.
