NEWARK, Del. (AP) - A Delaware man was arrested and accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, who has been missing since last week, authorities said.

Noah M. Sharp, 19, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Madison Sparrow, news outlets reported. Sharp was also charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and first-degree conspiracy.

Sparrow was reported missing on Friday, after she didn’t return home from getting ice cream with a friend and buying a birthday gift for her sister the same afternoon. She was a junior at Newark Charter School.

An interview with one of Sparrow’s friends led police to believe Sharp was a suspect.

Delaware State Police said Sharp confessed to killing Sparrow the day she went missing and later told police that he left her body in a wooded area near Interstate 95 and Del. 896.

Police said Sharp used an aluminum baseball bat to fatally hit Sparrow in the head in another wooded area behind an elementary school. Police later found the bat, blood droplets and Sparrow’s clothing.

Sharp told police he planned the killing with an unidentified person.

Police said the investigation will continue.
