ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - Three children and an adult died as a fire, possibly sparked by a soda machine, swept through a building in New Jersey.

Authorities on Tuesday combing through the debris discovered the bodies of a 10-year-old girl and a 41-year-old woman, Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage said. They were located near the same area where an 8-year-old girl and her 11-year-old friend were found dead after the fire broke out Monday evening.

The 8-year-old’s mother was hospitalized in critical condition.

The victims tried to flee, but were impeded by a metal cage that blocked their escape, officials said.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims.
