LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas on Friday reported reported more than 1,100 new coronavirus cases as the state’s COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began reached 1,900.
The Department of Health reported the state’s probable and confirmed cases increased by 1,162 to 110,878. The state’s COVID-19 deaths increased by six.
The state’s COVID-19 hospitalizations rose by two to 668. The actual number of cases in Arkansas is likely higher because many people have not been tested and people can carry the virus but not feel sick.
Arkansas ranks 17th in in the country for new cases per capita, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
A group of 14 state senators on Friday also asked that Arkansas direct $20 million in federal coronavirus relief funds to senior centers around the state. The lawmakers said the centers’ vehicles are running longer routes to deliver goods and services to seniors who can no longer come in person.
