CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina’s largest city recorded its 100th homicide of 2020 after a person was found shot to death inside a home, police said Wednesday.

The fatal shooting in Charlotte occurred Wednesday morning, The Charlotte Observer reported. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Lt. Bryan Crum called the milestone “troubling for us as detectives.”

“It’s troubling for us as community members …. One is too many … We can’t keep losing community members like this,” Crum said.

Charlotte recorded its 99th homicide Tuesday night after Robert Lee Darby, 30, was shot in east Charlotte and died at a local hospital.

So far, there have been no arrests in either case. Police, Crum said, need the help of residents to come forward with information in every case they investigate.

“We don’t do this in a vacuum,“ he said. “The reality is we solve cases because our community partners with us.”
