DETROIT (AP) - A clerk has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man inside a Detroit gas station.
Mohammed Hizam, 18, of Hamtramck, was arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court, according to the Wayne County prosecutor’s office.
Joshua Lewis was shot once in the chest with a rifle on Oct. 12 in the eastside gas station after he allegedly was seen using a hammer to break the glass of a coin-operated game of chance.
Hizam called 911 and was arrested after Detroit police arrived.
Hizam also is charged with manslaughter and using a firearm during a felony. He faces a Nov. 4 probable cause hearing and a Nov. 10 preliminary examination.
The Associated Press left a message Wednesday seeking comment from Hizam’s attorney.
