LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities in Nevada have reported a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot during a fight over a video game in a northeast Las Vegas home.
Police Department Homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said that officers responded to a report of a shooting Thursday around 4:35 p.m. about 10 miles (16 kilometers) from the Las Vegas Strip.
Spencer said officers discovered the body of the boy with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators believe several people had gone to the home to play a video game in an upstairs room when two people got into an argument.
“A gun was produced and there was a struggle over the gun during that fight. At that point the 16-year-old was shot and killed with that handgun,” Spencer said.
A 14-year-old suspect ran from the scene, police said. A witness, who remained unidentified, helped officers locate him about 30 minutes later where he was hiding about a half-mile away from where the shooting occurred. It is unclear where the gun came from.
Clark County School District police and Trauma Intervention Program specialists responded to the scene.
The suspect was arrested and booked on an open murder charge. The Clark County coroner’s office is expected to later identify the 16-year-old boy.
An investigation is ongoing.
