LOS ANGELES (AP) - More than 130 Los Angeles firefighters battled a fire in two downtown garment district businesses for more than 3½ hours early Tuesday.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment of a heat-related illness but no other injuries were reported, said Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Firefighters responding to a 4:43 a.m. alarm extinguished an exterior fire at a one-story commercial building and then discovered fire had extended into the interior, which was filled with rolled textiles.

The flames were extinguished in that business in about a half hour but firefighters found the fire had ignited an adjacent business.

Heavy streams of water were directed into that building as flames burned through the roof.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
