OPINION:
I really don’t want President Trump to lose his reelection challenge, but if he does, there is a silver or platinum lining in this dark cloud.
I can’t imagine Mr. Trump sitting in his basement sulking for four years after “Big Tech” played a significant and unfair role in his demise. Before Mr. Trump became president, businessman Trump had enormous talent, resources and drive. He still has them, but as president, he is restricted in what he can do. The CEO of Trump Communications will have no such restrictions.
Can you imagine Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook or Jack Dorsey of Twitter going up against Mr. Trump in a cage-match brawl? That can’t happen because none of them is a cage fighter, but they are businessmen and they could very well face off in the business world come January 2021.
Mr. Trump also has tens of millions of loyal supporters who would eagerly dump Facebook, Twitter, Google and Fox News if given an alternative and even the slightest encouragement. President Trump can’t start up alternatives to Facebook and Twitter and then ask his supporters to dump them and support his new fair, unbiased and probably better service. But CEO Trump can.
Be careful what you wish for, Big Tech. President Trump had at least one hand tied behind his back. CEO Trump will not.
