ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts woman charged with fatally stabbing another woman and slashing the victim’s husband during a fight over drugs and money has pleaded not guilty to murder.

Kayla Cantu, 20, of Weymouth, was held without bail after her arraignment Tuesday in connection with the death on Sept. 11 of Kimberly Duphily, 28. She had previously been arraigned on an assault charge in connection to injuries suffered by Jacob Duphily, 28.

The women got into a fight inside the Duphilys Attleboro apartment and the fight moved outside, prosecutors have said. Jacob Duphily was allegedly slashed in the face by Cantu when he tried to intervene, prosecutors said.

Cantu’s lawyer, James Hanley, told The Sun Chronicle said he will have his own investigators look into the case.

Hanley said there are witnesses who saw a physical altercation between the Duphilys inside the apartment and said his client left the apartment to avoid being involved.

“Kayla was leaving on her own to get away from the violence that was occurring inside the apartment,” Hanley said.
